We are a Sydney based, community organisation, run entirely by volunteers. We are focused on helping make life in hospital as easy and as comfortable as possible for sick children and their families.
Josie Dincel founded Ward Angels in 2015 after countless experiences in the hospital with her own sick child. She wanted to create genuine support for families and staff, donating only what is truly needed.
During her time in hospital, Josie spoke with staff and soon learned that, so often, staff would wish for essential items to help the families in hospital but either didn't have the budget or know who to reach out to for donations. On the flip side of this issue there were often many businesses and community members desperately wanting to help children in hospital but didn't know what donations were needed.
Ward Angels was created to help bridge the gap between community members wanting to help and what is actually needed by the hospitals.
Ward Angels is like a little sister to the hospital. Staff can call on Ward Angels any time to get the help they need for their families. They can request anything and everything - and together, along with our generous community, we always find a way to make it happen.
With the help of our tireless volunteers, we donate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of goods every year, that provide comfort, entertainment, distraction and support to children in hospitals all over New South Wales.
Ward Angels donates items, not generally covered by any hospital budgets. Items that can make life in hospital just that little bit easier, such as emergency toiletries, food items for parent lounges, colouring books, pencils and much more. Ward Angels work closely with the staff and families to find out EXACTLY what is needed. Our donations can range from bubbles and play dough to new fridges and everything in between.
Ward Angels donations are not just limited to comfort and entertainment items. We also support various programs within the hospitals with equipment and supplies such as:
Ward Angels also often supports individual families with sick children, who are struggling financially. With the guidance of the hospital social workers, Ward Angels will often help these families with vouchers, clothing and baby equipment.
On top of donating goods, Ward Angels also runs “feel good” events for families throughout the year such as Christmas lunches, Mother’s and Father’s Day events and individualized “special days” for children in palliative care.
Ward Angels supports sick children and their families in any medical or care facility throughout New South Wales.
